I, Artemisia, Made This

Playwright Janice Maffei has written a play,  “I, Artemisia, Made This,”  about the life of "the lady painter", Artemisia Gentileschi.  In Janice's words, it is:

...not just any play but a play about a woman of fierce passions, unapologetic ambition, and persistence in the face of rape, misogyny, and oppressive patriarchy. It’s more fun than it sounds like.  Seriously!...She dazzled her patrons with bold promises like “With me you will not lose. I have the spirit of Caesar and the soul of a woman.” Her work was commissioned and collected by dukes, kings and queens, and even the pope himself. She was the first woman to be invited into The Academy, thanks to her friend Galileo who nominated her.  My dream is to bring her to life so that we may come to know her work and be inspired by her fearless ways."
